The small town of Imabari in Ehime Prefecture in Japan is renowned for its traditional towel making craftsmanship in existence for more than 100 years,

Established 1934 in Imabari, Kontex has been crafting high-quality towels using fine, garment quality thread that is loosely twisted for the highest level of softness. Such thread would break on modern weaving machines, thus Kontex towels are gently woven on old looms using traditional weaving techniques to maintain the integrity of the thread and achieve a level of softness that modern, high-speed machines cannot produce. Compared to modern machines which are used for speedy mass production, this method is more time consuming, but shows much better results in absorption capacity, lasting texture softness and drying behavior.

All textiles are woven from pure cotton, using mainly organic cotton and linen.  Also, a Recycle Collection, is available, using up to 50% recycled cotton.

As towels are in regular contact with the skin, it is imperative that no substances, which could affect the body, remain on the surface of the towel. Each Kontex towel is carefully washed in the melted snow of Mt. Ishizuchi to remove any contaminants (like starch or wax) inhibiting the towel's absorbency. The attention to detail can be felt in every fiber of the finished product.
